Detailed steps

1. Login to Google Domains by going to https://domains.google. Select the domain that you want to create a business email address.

3. Verify the Email Alias. You may need to verify the email address if the forwarding email you’ll use does not own that domain. You’ll get a notification like the below if you need to verify it. Check your email account and verify it. If you don’t get this notification, you’ll be able to use the forwarding email right away.

4. Set up how to reply from your Google Email Alias. You don’t need to do this if you only need the email alias to receive emails. But if you want to reply from it, follow the steps below.

In order to set this up, you’ll need to create an App Password. On Gmail, click the icon on the top right

And then select Manage your Google Account.

Click Security on the left. Under Signing in to Google you should see two step verification and the app password.

Two step verification needs to be set up first, before creating an app password. So make sure you do that first. It’s also a good practice to have 2-step verification on any of your mail account, even if it’s not a Gmail account. This is an extra security so if someone guesses your password, they can’t easily get in to your account without the code from your 2-step verification.

Select App passwords, it will then ask you to login. Select App, click Other and type Gmail. Make sure you type Gmail, as sometimes it doesn’t work if you don’t put Gmail.

Then click Generate to create a password.

Copy the generated password. Then go to your email account. Click the Cogwheel > See All Settings.

Look for Accounts and Import tab and then click Add another email address.

A screen will pop up where you can modify the name and type the email alias that you created. Then click Next step

Add the following:

  • SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 587
  • Username: <the email address of the account>
  • Password: <the app password that you copied>
  • Secured Connection: TLS

You’ll then get an email confirmation on your inbox. Open the confirmation email and click the link that it contains to verify it. Once it’s verified, you may need to refresh the page and wait about 5 minutes before everything starts working.

Test it and see if worked.
